Indian River Hoops Rally: A Slam Dunk of Community Spirit!

Crossover Mission’s first-ever Indian River Hoops Rally Exhibition Game at our Center for Excellence was an incredible success, bringing together student athletes, local community organizations, leaders, and supporters for an unforgettable day of basketball, fun, and inspiration.

The event was designed to give Crossover student athletes and others throughout the community a chance to engage with collegiate players from Indian River State College (IRSC), creating an atmosphere of encouragement and excitement. The energy in the building was palpable as our kids hit the court alongside IRSC’s basketball players, learning from them, competing, and building connections. The enthusiasm, respect, and camaraderie shown by the IRSC players were contagious, and the highlight for many of the students and players was having their t-shirts and posters signed by the IRSC team members. Moments like these can have a lasting impact on the lives of both the kids and the college players.

In addition to the basketball action, the Indian River Firefighters Benevolent Association made an exciting appearance with their fire truck, which quickly became a focal point of the day. The kids were thrilled to take photos with the firefighters and the IRSC players, and even got the chance to climb aboard the fire truck! We were also honored and humbled by the Indian River Firefighters Benevolent Association’s generous $5,000 sponsorship of our upcoming Gala, further strengthening the bond between our organizations and reinforcing our shared commitment to the community.

Special thanks to Michael Schemel, Director of Development of IRSC, Coach Jackson, and Assistant Coach Phillips for their hard work and thoughtful planning, which made the IRSC event such a valuable experience for our kids. Their commitment and enthusiasm created memorable experiences for our student athletes, and inspired everyone involved.

We would also like to extend our appreciation to our local youth organizations, The Boys and Girls Club, Gifford Youth Achievement Center (GYAC), Youth Guidance, and the various agencies that attended and tabled at the event. Their involvement added a wonderful layer of collaboration, bringing even more students to participate in this memorable event. The spirit of community was felt throughout the day, and we are grateful for their ongoing partnership in supporting the youth of Indian River County.

Crossover Mission is committed to preparing our student athletes not only for success on the basketball court but also for their futures in education and life. Through our College and Career Readiness program, we strive to inspire our kids to see all the opportunities that further education can offer. IRSC is an excellent pathway for many of our students, and we are proud to promote the school as a wonderful option for their academic and athletic journeys. We hope that one day, some of our Crossover kids will be playing on IRSC’s team—and maybe even coached by the very people they met at this event.
